If you want to buy a LEGO® Minifigure, you will notice that these are usually colored yellow. Why is this happening, is there a reason behind these figures being yellow in the first place? The primary focus here is to figure out why LEGO® decided to bring the yellow color and whether this has any impact on these toys and how they were created in the first place.

Key Takeaways

1. The iconic yellow LEGO® Minifigure is here to stay as it’s synonymous with the LEGO® brand and makes them stand out from other brands.

2. There are now flesh-colored LEGO® Minifigures in certain sets to add authenticity and encourage equality.

3. Despite the recent trend of introducing different colors, the majority of minifigures will remain yellow for nostalgia’s sake.

4. For those looking to explore a wide range of minifigures, there are lots to collect and you won’t be disappointed!

Why Are LEGO® Minifigures Yellow?

The primary reason Lego minifigures are yellow is because of the printing process used to create them. The yellow coloring helps the printing machine recognize which areas should and shouldn’t be printed on, resulting in a finished product that looks sharp and vivid.

The thing to note about LEGO® is that this is a company with an international audience. They want to cater to people from all over the world, so their products are distinctive and unique at the same time.

It’s important to understand that LEGO® Minifigures can be sold in most countries such as the US, UK, Sweden, Germany, India, Romania, and Africa. They are basically everywhere!

LEGO wants to send a universal message to their customers stating that everyone is the same, a part of Earth and there shouldn’t be differences when it comes to the color of someone’s skin or race. Anyone and everyone can love LEGO® and they want to build a community of LEGO® fans with zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind.

This is why having a LEGO® Minifigure with yellow coloring is the right approach. This was decided early on, to show that these LEGO® Minifigures have no particular sex, role, or race. Instead, they are offered in yellow, and kids get to imagine how to play with them, how to have fun, and so on.

Bringing that sense of neutrality is a very good idea, and it just goes to show how LEGO® managed to take all potential issues and challenges into consideration and have created something amazing children and adults can enjoy.

It goes to show that LEGO® Minifigures are not created for any particular nation or country. If you look hard enough you will find that there are some exceptions to the only yellow Minifigure rule, you can actually find some LEGO® Minifigures that are colored to match real life.

An example of this is the LEGO Millennium Falcon set 75257 which features a character from Star Wars called Lando Calrissian.

LEGO does this from time to time in order to represent any particular, iconic, or very popular characters. But for a general LEGO® Minifigure, they always keep it yellow.

Is Making Minifigures Yellow An Issue?

If anything, having the LEGO® Minifigure in yellow shows that LEGO® always strives to maintain integrity and neutrality. With children being a big target audience for The LEGO® Group they want to educate children to not think about racial differences or anything like that and using play to do this is a great idea.

As a side note, we actually have a post where we cover LEGO® Therapy, it’s not directly linked to this but whilst we are on the subject it’s interesting to see how LEGO® can be used to help children in so many ways.

Additionally, it’s great to just leave kids to play around and use their imagination to have fun and create their own adventures. That’s why a LEGO® Minifigure was created in the first place, after all.

So, unless the LEGO® set calls for authenticity and the LEGO® Minifigure color has to be anything other than yellow, you will rarely see them in any other colors. Even if you find LEGO® Minifigures that are in other colors, the yellow coloring is ideal, and that’s definitely the thing you want to keep in mind here.

With that being said, this has become an iconic aspect of LEGO® sets, and it’s the reason why people love them. It’s easier to connect with those characters and just immerse yourself in the experience.

Does LEGO® Create Flesh-Colored LEGO® Minifigures?

Yes, this is a trend that has become more prominent in recent years. Usually, LEGO® tends to use this approach especially when it comes to licensed brands.

You won’t see flesh-colored minifigures aside from brands and licenses. This is great because you do get to have an authentic approach for every brand while maintaining very good quality and experience. That’s the thing that makes the experience worth it, and the benefits are always very impressive in the long run.

Older LEGO® Minifigures Were Pink

The iconic yellow LEGO® Minifigure might be synonymous with the brand today, but it hasn’t always been that way. In fact, in 1978 and 1979, before the yellow minifigures were introduced, original LEGO® figures were actually pink!

The move to yellow was due to safety concerns as well as other practical considerations such as marketing and cost-effectiveness. It’s interesting to see how this color has become a staple of the LEGO® brand over time!

How LEGO Cares About Its Customer With Neutral Colors

Granted, there isn’t an extensive amount of LEGO® Minifigures with any other color aside from yellow, which is great to consider here. It shows how much LEGO® cares about its clients and the idea of keeping things neutral. It’s for the best, and that’s what brings in the amazing value and quality customers get from it.

An example of how LEGO® likes to get behind promoting equality is the Everyone is Awesome set, this set was designed by Matthew Ashton.

When Matthew Ashton designed this set his primary aim was to raise awareness, encourage acceptance, and in its simplest form show that we are all the same and that we all deserve happiness in our life regardless of the choices we make.

An amazing set with an even better message behind it, if you would like to read more about this you can click this link here for the back story.

How can I find a wide variety of LEGO® Minifigures?

There are lots of minifigures to collect, with a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colors. You can browse the LEGO® minifigures and sets to find the ones you like best!

We can surely say that The LEGO® Group are a great company with amazing moral’s and they have done an amazing job not only encouraging equality but their yellow LEGO® Minifigures cannot be mistaken for another other than LEGO, the little yellow figures add to the identity of the brand.

They’ve been doing this for decades, and it has become synonymous with the LEGO® brand. Adding different colors for various sets brings authenticity, but it does go to show there’s a lot of thought and attention to this brand.

It’s a great idea to browse LEGO® minifigures and sets to find the ones you like. And yes, most of these will have a yellow LEGO® Minifigure or more, depending on the pack and style.

It’s nice to see that LEGO® does spruce things up, and in the end, that’s what conveys an amazing range of results and benefits! There are lots to collect but don’t blame us if you get hooked trying to collect them all!

Hey, I am Matthew Mitchell and I am an AFOL from the UK. I have been fascinated by LEGO® since I was a child. My two children are in love with LEGO® and it's because of them that my interest continued to grow, this is how I fell in to the rabbit hole of MOCs (my own creation).

With every new MOC I saw I became just a bit more addicted to the endless possibilities that LEGO® offers. This led me to creating Belle-Ve Bricks, a platform where talented designers can share their work with the world.

And where we can create together with you, custom models.
