In this post, we are going to cover the very sore subject of LEGO® vs LEGOs. What is right, what is wrong, or even, is there a right or wrong? That said there is also the possibility that you simply don’t care, haha! Anyway, let’s jump into this plural nightmare!
Let’s clear this up right from the start with what the LEGO® Group has to say about this.

So, there you go, LEGO® is an adjective so the plural of LEGO® is LEGO. With that in mind most of us have probably been saying it wrong for years! I mean when I was a kid I am pretty sure I didn’t say “Hey let’s go play with my LEGO® elements”, if I did I am not too sure anyone would have wanted to play with me.
I wonder why it is more broadly acceptable to say things like Rolexes, Macs, Tescos, or Audis but not LEGOs. I can’t say I have ever heard anyone having a heated debate about the use of another brand name. Do you know why?
According to Mignon Fogarty the use of the word LEGO® and LEGOs is actually regional, in a survey they did they discovered that apparently, people in the United Kingdom tend to call LEGO® bricks, sets & elements (don’t forget those elements) “LEGO” whereas people in the United States call them “LEGOs”.
You may have already seen this but if not it’s a good watch. Seth Meyers attempts to settle the debate by giving his opinion, he received a lot of backlash for it though!
Conclusion
In my opinion, it really doesn’t make any difference to me whether someone says LEGO, LEGO® bricks, or LEGOs, the end result is always the same. Whilst technically according to the LEGO® Group the term LEGO® should always be used adjectively (LEGO brick, set, etc) but does it really make that much of a difference?
Whether you are admiring, buying bricks, or building a set we all love those little bricks that unlock your imagination and let your inner child out. So, call it what you want, continue to be part of the ever-growing community, and most importantly have fun with LEGO!
What do you think? Does it bother you? Do you call it LEGO® or LEGOs? We would love to hear your thoughts, drop a comment below to share your opinion!
