Octopus fairground ride, with lorry to transport the ride. The cars have fold down front like the real ride to allow for easy boarding. The lorry features 4 wheel steering. Looseley based on an ERF lorry of the period.
The Octopus dates from 1936 and was produced in England between 1937 and 1968.
The Octopus is a fast exciting ride that not only gives a see-saw motion, as the arm rises and fall, but a wildly spinning sensation as the car rotates quickly. The Octopus utilises a contra-rotating centre crank pin that pulls the 8 arms up and down in sequence.
It was popular in the UK in the 50’s and 60’s. It waned in popularity during the late 1970s
