Description
This MOC recreates one of my favorite scenes from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!
While Harry Potter lives with the already terrible Dursley family, at the beginning of this story an even worse family member comes to visit – his Aunt Marge. As a young wizard, Harry is not in full control of his magical abilities, and after she insults his dead parents, he accidentally casts a spell to turn her into a balloon! In the film version, matters gets worse as bounces out of the house and into the sky. Don’t worry – Aunt Marge was eventually punctured and her memory modified. And despite flouting the Decree for the Restriction of Underage Wizardry, Harry did not get punished by Ministry of Magic for this incident. As the Minister for Magic said – “The Ministry doesn’t send people to Azkaban for blowing up their aunts!”.
The design process was a fun one as I started digitally. My first attempt was basically trying to stick round parts on a sides of a 4 x 4 x 4 cube. Eventually I found some more clever techniques so she wouldn’t be too huge, but still satisfyingly round!
Aunt Marge can be a great addition to your collection of official Harry Potter sets, such as 75398 4 Privet Drive or 75957 The Knight Bus. (Or any other edition of Privet Drive or The Knight Bus!)
Notes on parts:
- I’ve included tan hands in my pictured model and in the parts list, but it would probably be an improvement to upgrade the color to “light nougat” hands to match the skin tone of the head. But I think the tan hands look fine, and are likely owned by Harry Potter LEGO® fans interested in this MOC, since they are included in as Grawp’s hands in set 75967 “Forbidden Forest: Umbridge’s Encounter”.
- If you look at the instructions before buying parts, you will find that many pieces are not visible in the final structure. So the colors for many pieces do not matter and can likely be replaced by any color of the part you happen to have.
